FHB Series Large Hydraulic Breakers for 9 to 61 Ton Carriers

Your Next Breaker Is Stronger, Smarter, and More Efficient!

The FHB Series is FRD’s fifth-generation line of large hydraulic breakers. Seven models, FHB12 through FHB45, fit carriers from 9 to 61 U.S. tons, with weights from 1,782 to 7,021 lb and working steel from 4.33 to 6.69 in. Every model runs at 2,320 to 2,610 psi and has a solid body with no thru-bolts.

FRD’s FHB Series builds on decades of high-performance hammering with new stroke control technology, improved durability, and eco-friendly efficiencies.

Performance Innovations in Every FHB Model

  • Solid body design with no thru-bolts to torque, break or replace
  • Square body for strength and rigidity
  • Replaceable cylinder liner with concentric porting that keeps the piston aligned
  • Three-point dust intake prevention: piston grooves, a cushion ring and improved external sealing
  • New valve design that reduces hydraulic fluid temperature
  • Lubrication routed evenly to the thrust bushing, front bushing and rod pins
  • Larger bushing surface that keeps the working steel aligned
  • Updated stop pins and rod pins for longer service life
  • Qtv cradle for protection and sound suppression

Frequently Asked Questions

The FHB Series is FRD’s fifth-generation line of large hydraulic breakers. It has seven models, the FHB12, FHB16, FHB18, FHB20, FHB27, FHB35 and FHB45, for carriers from 9 to 61 U.S. tons. Every model has a solid body with no thru-bolts and mounts in a Qtv low-noise cradle.

FHB Series breakers fit carriers from 9 to 61 U.S. tons. The FHB12 fits 9 to 15 tons, the FHB16 12 to 20, the FHB18 15 to 21, the FHB20 19 to 26, the FHB27 21 to 33, the FHB35 28 to 44 and the FHB45 39 to 61.

Start with carrier weight. Each model number matches its optimal carrier weight in U.S. tons, so the FHB27 is optimal on a 27 ton carrier and fits carriers from 21 to 33 tons. Then confirm that the carrier’s auxiliary flow and pressure fall within the breaker’s range. Where two models fit, FRD USA Breaker and Attachment Division sales can confirm the match at 800-527-2282.

All seven models operate at 2,320 to 2,610 psi (160 to 180 bar). Acceptable oil flow rises with model size, from 18.5 to 31.5 GPM (70 to 119 LPM) on the FHB12 to 52.8 to 79.2 GPM (200 to 300 LPM) on the FHB45.

The Quick Switch Valve (QSV) is a manual stroke adjuster with three settings: L for long stroke, S for short stroke, and A for long stroke with anti-dry-fire protection. It is standard on the FHB16 through FHB45. The Smart Stroke System (SSS) switches between long and short stroke automatically by sensing piston position and is an option on the FHB27, FHB35 and FHB45. The FHB12 has neither; its stroke is changed by attaching or detaching a GPF plug.

No. Every FHB model uses a solid body design that eliminates thru-bolts, so there are none to torque, break or replace.

Choosing the Right Hydraulic Rock Breaker

When operated properly, breakers efficiently and effectively break up concrete and shatter rock. If not operated properly or not sized correctly for the job, the attachment can fail unexpectedly and waste precious time on a job site, or even suffer a reduced lifespan.
